Yes. Indian passport holders generally need a visa to travel to Austria. For tourism, family visits or other short stays of up to 90 days within a 180-day period, travellers generally apply for a Schengen Visa (Visa C).
Indian citizens can apply for an Austria Schengen visa, but approval is not automatic. The application is assessed based on the purpose of travel, supporting documents, financial circumstances, accommodation, travel insurance and the applicant's overall eligibility under Schengen visa rules.
The standard Schengen visa fee is currently €90 for adults and €45 for children aged 6 to under 12. Children under 6 and certain eligible applicant categories may be exempt from the visa fee. Additional visa application centre or optional service charges may apply.
There is no single fixed bank balance that guarantees an Austria tourist visa. Applicants should demonstrate sufficient financial means to cover accommodation, daily expenses, travel and the return journey. The required financial evidence depends on the duration and circumstances of the proposed trip.
A Schengen visa application normally takes around 15 calendar days to process after it is lodged. In individual cases, processing can take up to 45 days when additional examination or documents are required. Appointment waiting time should also be considered, especially during peak travel periods.

Austria has outsourced visa application collection and passport return in India to VFS, while the Austrian Embassy assesses the application.
